सरकार 9-14 वर्ष की आयु की लड़कियों के लिए सर्वाइकल कैंसर से बचाव के लिए एचपीवी वैक्सीन अभियान शुरू करने के लिए तैयार है। यह अभियान देश के छह राज्यों से शुरू होगा, जिनमें कर्नाटक, तमिलनाडु, मिजोरम, छत्तीसगढ़, महाराष्ट्र और उत्तर प्रदेश शामिल हैं।
सरकार का लक्ष्य 2023-24 में देश की 9-14 वर्ष की आयु की लगभग 4.5 करोड़ लड़कियों को वैक्सीन लगाना है। वैक्सीन दो डोज में दी जाएगी, जिनके बीच छह महीने का अंतर होगा।

सरकार का मानना है कि यह अभियान सर्वाइकल कैंसर के मामलों को कम करने में मदद करेगा। सर्वाइकल कैंसर महिलाओं में होने वाला दूसरा सबसे आम कैंसर है। यह मानव पैपिलोमावायरस (एचपीवी) के संक्रमण के कारण होता है। एचपीवी एक यौन संचारित संक्रमण है।
वैक्सीन एचपीवी के संक्रमण से बचाने में मदद करती है, जो सर्वाइकल कैंसर का कारण बन सकता है। वैक्सीन को सुरक्षित और प्रभावी माना जाता है।
अभियान के तहत, सरकार स्कूलों और स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों में लड़कियों को वैक्सीन मुफ्त में उपलब्ध कराएगी। अभियान के लिए स्वास्थ्य कर्मियों को भी प्रशिक्षित किया जाएगा।
सरकार का मानना है कि यह अभियान सर्वाइकल कैंसर को रोकने में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है।
